Introduction

CG is not a new method, but a new term. Small group is widely used in governance, administration, mobilization, transmission of information and execution of tasks in all areas of society such as military, education, business, medical, religion and, etc. CG is preceded with the word "Cell’ to show that CG is not merely an organization. It is also an organism which is alive and capable of growing, breeding and experiencing life cycle changes; similar to biological cells, thus the name "Cell Group.”

CG is not a panacea, able to solve all the problems in the church. Nevertheless, CG is a very effective method (CG was originally God's method. Eg: The "Officials over ten" in the Old Testament's as a unit of group, and Jesus’ 12 Disciples in the New Testament have proved to be the most effective method.) God had blessed the church’s CG ministry around the world. Although we cannot say that a church with CG will definitely grow, yet CG is evident is almost every growing church.

Basically, the function and purpose of CG includes the following eight:

1. The promotion of healthy Church Life
2. The promotion of healthy Spiritual Life of members
3. To enhance the ability of believers to serve
4. To enhance the leadership capability of believers
5. Strengthen the team spirit in Church
6. Expanding the network of friendship evangelism
7. Leading non-believers to church
8. Leading believers into the community

Klang Methodist Church had implemented CG since 1994, 16 years to date. Currently the church has a total of 50 CGs, comprises of 40 Chinese and 10 English languages CGs. The organization is divided into classes, zones and groups. Class is inclusive of two to four zones oversee by a class leader, whereas, Zone is inclusive of two to four CGs oversee by a Zone Leader.

Each CG has about 10 to 15 members, taken care by the CG leader, and aided by assistant CG leader and another Practice leader. Arrangement for team members to participate in preaching ministry, funeral prayer and so on is done monthly according to class. Every week, CG meetings will be held in different member’s home.
